We believe that changing children’s food choices and diets needs to be a shared responsibility involving the student, the school, the family and the community. To that end we require parents or adult family members to participate in the program as volunteers. The parents are present to model and learn as well as supervise the children as we will be using knives and heat sources.
Community members are also encouraged to become involved in the Project CHEF program. We have cooked and enjoyed food with chefs, small business owners, nutritionists, school engineers, grandmas, retired teachers, nurses, CEOs, police officers and Paralympians just to name a few of our volunteers.
Just like a home kitchen, our classroom 'kitchens' have become places for sharing, learning, cooking and eating while involving people from as many intresting backgrounds as our city has to offer.
